About This Site

This website exists for one purpose: helping serious followers of Jesus know Him more deeply through His life and teachings in the Gospels.

As a missionary, church planter, pastor, and teacher, I have devoted my life to Jesus’ command to “make disciples of all the nations… teaching them to carefully observe everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:18–20).

Everything on this site is built around that mission.

Here you will find in-depth studies of the life and teachings of Jesus, along with the print and e-books I have written to help believers grow in their understanding of Him. Much of the material here expands on content that originally appeared on the now-discontinued atjministries.org site.

If you are new to this site, a good place to begin is with one of the three free books below. Both are short introductions to the life and teaching of Jesus.

The Secret of Power…According to Jesus
A short exploration of Jesus’ surprising teaching about weakness and God’s power.

The Cross…According to Jesus

Thirty Days with Jesus Speaking About His Own Cross
A devotional journey through Jesus’ own words about the meaning of the cross.

The Resurrection…According to Jesus

A 50-day devotional journey through all the resurrection appearance of Jesus in his own words, designed to cover from Easter to Pentecost.

All three books are available as free PDF downloads.

After reading these, you may want to explore the larger Daily Jesus News study series described below.

Daily Jesus News

One of the central resources on this site is the Daily Jesus News (DJN).

These 365 devotional studies guide readers through the chronological life of Jesus, focusing each day on one teaching or event from the Gospels, arranged in chronological order.. Taken together, these studies amount to more than 1,000 pages of material exploring the life of Jesus Christ.

Many readers have described this as one of the most comprehensive online studies of the life of Jesus available on the internet.

If you want to know Jesus as the Gospels describe Him, this is a good place to begin.

Books and Resources

This site also provides access to PDF, print, and e-book versions of my other books about the life and teachings of Jesus.

If you cannot afford to purchase any of my books, please do not let that stop you. I will gladly find a way to make them available to you. Simply send me an email explaining your situation using the address listed at the bottom of this page.

It would give me great joy if Jesus used the material here to strengthen and encourage you. That is my prayer.

About Me

I love talking about Jesus, not about myself. But if you are going to read or watch my materials, it is fair that you know something about who I am.

You can find more information on the About John page, where I describe my life, family, background, education, and ministry.

I am far from perfect. But I hope you will be able to see the “good work” that Jesus began in me and continues to bring toward completion through His grace.

A Serious Follower of Jesus

I write primarily for serious followers of Jesus. This is how I described it in Chapter 1 of my book ONE THING: The Goal of Discipleship—According to Jesus.

“I am a serious follower of Jesus. Being serious about following Jesus means that He is my passion, my life, the love of my life, my all in all. Since you are reading this, I assume that you are a serious follower of Jesus too. You want to know Him deeply, love Him, and see others come to know Him as you do.

Identifying as a serious follower does not mean that I am more righteous, better, or more spiritual than others. On the contrary, my lifetime of following Jesus has repeatedly shown me my own sinfulness and weakness as a disciple. This has only magnified the greatness of my Lord’s love and grace in enabling me to continue following Him in spite of myself.

I am serious about following Jesus because I have nowhere else to go but to Him—no one else to trust with all that I am. Having come to know Him, nothing in all creation can rival Him.”

The greatness and glory of Jesus are what matter. He is what matters.

And you matter too—to Him, and to me.
